Carotid Doppler Ultrasound in Canberra
A Carotid Doppler ultrasound assesses the carotid arteries in the neck and the blood flow through them. Doppler technology lets us see and measure how blood is moving, which gives your doctor important information about the health of these vessels.
Preparation: No preparation is needed. Eat, drink and take your medications as normal, and wear a top that leaves the neck accessible.
What to expect: You'll lie back comfortably while warm gel is applied to the neck and a probe is moved over the arteries. You may hear a "whooshing" sound — that's the Doppler picking up blood flow, and it's completely normal. The scan is painless and usually takes around 30 minutes.
