Pelvic & Gynaecological Ultrasound in Canberra
A pelvic ultrasound examines the uterus, ovaries and surrounding pelvic structures. It's used to investigate a wide range of gynaecological symptoms and to monitor known conditions.
Where appropriate, a transvaginal (internal) scan may be offered. With your consent, it provides a more detailed and accurate view of the uterus and ovaries than an abdominal scan alone. Your sonographer will always explain the options and seek your consent first.
Preparation: A full bladder helps us see the pelvic organs clearly on the abdominal part of the scan. Empty your bladder two hours before your appointment, drink 600 mL of water within the next hour, and hold from then until your scan.
What to expect: Warm gel is applied to the lower abdomen and a probe is moved gently over the area. If a transvaginal scan is suitable, it will be discussed with you beforehand and only performed with your consent. Most appointments take 20โ30 minutes.
Billing: We are a mixed-billing practice and will explain all costs, rebates and any out-of-pocket expense before your scan.
