Paediatric Ultrasound in Canberra

We perform a full range of children's ultrasound examinations in a calm, child-friendly environment. These include paediatric hip assessments, scans for appendicitis and mesenteric adenitis, intussusception, pyloric stenosis, paediatric spine, and renal and pelvic scans, as well as soft-tissue lumps and bumps.

Preparation: Preparation depends on the type of scan:

  • Lumps and bumps, appendicitis, mesenteric adenitis, intussusception, hip (from 6 weeks of age) and spine — no preparation needed.

  • Upper abdominal scan — please fast for 4 hours.

  • Pyloric stenosis — fast for 4 hours, and bring a bottle of cooled boiled water or milk for use during the scan.

  • Renal and pelvic scans — have your child drink 400 mL of water one hour before the appointment.

What to expect: Warm gel is applied and a small probe is moved over the area being examined. The scan is painless, and you're welcome to stay with your child throughout. Appointment length varies with the type of scan, from around 15 to 30 minutes.

Billing: We are a mixed-billing practice and will explain all costs, rebates and any out-of-pocket expense before the scan.
